Eye of the Needle Cowl knitting pattern

Description

A cabled neckwarmer to knit in two sizes (S/L) is just the thing to fill an open collar when cold winds blow. Simple cable crosses in a vertical pattern create a neat, modern motif that is engaging to knit and delicious to wear. Knit in a round, tightly twisted yarn for crisp stitch definition and a snug fit; for a softer texture and fit, work in a relaxed yarn or fiber blend. Sizing is easily adjusted to use a larger skein of yarn (see pattern notes).

Suggested Yarns: 
Special edition Kent Aran,  Stone Soup Worsted, Kent Worsted, Confection Worsted, Better Breakfast Worsted, Targhee Tango Worsted, or any worsted/aran weight yarn that knits to pattern gauge.

Substituting yarn and/or needles may result in an overall variation in size and density. 

Finished Size: 
18.5(23) inches in circumference and approximately 9.5 inches in depth (washed and air-dried, unstretched)
Note: sizing may be adjusted by using needles one size up (looser fit) or down (tighter fit)

Yarn Requirements: 
160(200) yards 

Gauge: 
22 sts and 25 rows = 4 inches in cable pattern on larger needles (knit flat, washed, and air-dried)
16 sts and 26 rows = 4 inches in stockinette on larger needles (knit flat, washed, and air-dried)

Needles: 
size 8US (5.0 mm) 16-inch circular needle (or size to obtain correct gauge)
size 6US (4.0 mm) 16-inch circular needle for hems (or 1.0 mm smaller than gauge needle)
Note: cowl may be worked entirely on two circular needles if desired
