Light Shimmer Sock knitting pattern

Description

With a shimmery texture that brings twinkling stars to earth, this sock in five sizes (XS/S/M/ L/XL) takes full advantage of a subtly shifting colorway or a solid that has some sheen. With a squishy, stretchy textured rib down the leg and over the foot, this design offers a comfortable, forgiving fit from top to toe. Worked top-down, the instructions are written for four needles, but are easily adapted to other methods or reversed to work toe-up (toe-up instuctions not included).

Sample shown is size M (men’s length) and knit in Bare Naked Wools Peruvian Highland Fingering yarn, in the custom colorway, Equinox

Suggested Yarns: Modern Deco Lace, Better Breakfast Fingering, Stone Soup Fingering, Seasons Fingering, or any smooth fingering yarn that knits to pattern gauge

Substituting yarn and/or needles may result in an overall variation in size, drape, or yardage requirement. 

Finished Size:
7.5(8.5, 9.75, 10.75, 11.5) inches in circumference to fit feet measuring up to 8.75(9.75, 11, 12, 12.5) inches around ball of foot

Yarn requirements:
350(400, 450, 500, 550) yards for women’s medium length foot

Gauge:
28 sts and 42 rows = 4 inches in stockinette on smaller needles (knit flat, washed and air-dried)
32 sts and 42 rows = 4 inches in twist stitch pattern on larger needles (knit flat, washed and stretched lightly)

Needles:
DPNs size 1US (2.25 mm) for top cuff and foot (or size to obtain correct gauge)
DPNs size 1.5US (2.75 mm) for leg in pattern (or .25 larger than gauge needle)
