*This class fulfills the Non-Knitting Elective / Wild Card ElectiveRequirement for WEKP.

Thislecture/demo class is designed to walk students through a myriad of yarn typesand educate them on the reasons to choose or not to choose certain yarns forspecific projects.

Conedyarns, wools, superwash wools, cottons, linens, acrylics and blends will all bediscussed.

Learnwhich reed to use for different weights (thickness) of yarn as well as how totreat the weaving (beat, tension) for specific yarn fibers. Students willreceive samples of each yarn discussed to have for future reference. In class,the samples will be labeled by type, content, weight and how many ends per inchto set each yarn for a successful project. Finishing (washing) techniques forvarious fibers will also be addressed. Handouts will be provided for eachstudent.

Therewill be a loom set up in class for students to explore how to make a samplebefore weaving a project.

For the comfort and safety ofour students and teachers, students may be asked to wear a mask during inperson classes and workshops, and masks are available upon request.
