Pages& Purls is a unique class series that blends reading and knitting, inspiredby foundational knitting books. Join Malinda Lesko of Alchemy Fiber Mill for apart book club, part hands-on workshop experience, featuring guided discussion,practical knitting, and takeaways you can use beyond the classroom. Eachsession explores a different book—no two classes are the same.
Inthis installment of Pages & Purls, we’ll explore the Special Techniqueschapter of Barbara Walker’s classic Learn to Knit Afghan Book. Don’t worry,we’re not knitting a full blanket! Through guided discussion and hands-onknitting, we’ll examine Walker’s clear, influential teaching style whilepracticing techniques that add structure, texture, and interest to knittedfabric. This class blends book-club conversation with skill-building swatchesor blocks and offers insight into why Walker’s explanations remain so effectivedecades later. You just might be inspired to knit the full Afghan after all.
For the comfort and safety ofour students and teachers, students may be asked to wear a mask during inperson classes and workshops, and masks are available upon request.
Format: In-Person
Prerequisite: Knitting II, or equivalent.
Materials Required:

Yarn:
3skeins worsted weight yarn (choose 2-3 different colors)
Needles:
US6 (4mm) circular needle 16”,
oneset of double-pointed needles in the same size
NOTE:10” or longer straight needles may also be used for some of the blocks but youwill still need circular and double-pointed as well.
